The Aldus Persuasion Player is provided free to registered users of Aldus Persuasion for the Macintosh, version 6.0.5 or later, or Aldus Persuasion for Windows, version 2.1 or later, and may be distributed with Aldus Persuasion slide shows when this ReadMe file is included.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Aldus Persuasion Player allows you to view an Aldus Persuasion presentation on any Macintosh or IBM compatible computer, regardless of whether or not Aldus Persuasion itself is available. For instance, you can use the Aldus Persuasion Player to provide a sales presentation to outside sales staff, or deliver a message about your company to prospective customers. With the Aldus Persuasion Player, you can give a quick, impressive on-screen presentation, and skip the process of creating overheads or 35mm slides altogether. The Aldus Persuasion Player also gives you the full benefit of layering and transition effects, which create a dynamic presentation.
The slide show files in your Persuasion presentation are raster (bitmapped) images designed to be played on a Macintosh 13-inch monitor that supports 256 colors. For best results, we recommend that you have a Macintosh II with at least 1 MB of RAM. For best results on an IBM-compatible computer, we recommend that you have a 386-processor with at least 1 MB of RAM and a VGA monitor that supports 256 colors. The Aldus Persuasion Player will operate using other configurations, but the slide show may not look as good as when it was created. (For example, 16-color-mode or black-and-white monitors will display dithered patterns instead of colors, and smaller monitors will have cropped images.) Slide show files created with Aldus Persuasion for the Macintosh can also be viewed with the Aldus Persuasion Player for IBM-compatible computers. Conversely, slide show files created with Aldus Persuasion for Windows can be viewed with the Aldus Persuasion Player for the Macintosh.
To create a Persuasion Player slide show file:
1. In Persuasion, choose “Export...” from the File menu.
2. In the “Export” drop-down list box, choose one of the following:
• “All slides” or “Current slide” if you are in Slide view.
• “All slides” if you are in Outline view.
• “All slides” or “Selected slides” if you are in Slide Sorter view and have slides selected. (You can export selected slides from the slide sorter if you select the slides first.)
3. Choose “Slide show” in the “File format” list box.
4. Check “Builds” if you want each layer of your image to be saved as a slide.
The transition effects and delay between slides and layers that you specified in the Persuasion “Slide show” dialog box will be saved with your file. Refer to the Aldus Persuasion User Manual for more information on these settings.
Changes must be made in the original Persuasion file. To ensure that the Aldus Persuasion Player file runs as you expect, make sure to test the file before you give your presentation. Once the Player file is exported from Persuasion, you cannot make any content changes to the file, although you can adjust the slide show settings using the “Show settings” option.
The Aldus Persuasion Player file size and export time will vary depending on the slide contents. More complex slides will take longer and create a larger file. Complex objects (such as imported EPS images, imported PICTs, imported Windows Metafiles, and a large number of layers within the slides) will increase the file size.
Aldus Persuasion Player Pocket Guide

To run the Aldus Persuasion Player application:
1. Double-click the Player icon. Or, select the Player icon, and then choose “Open” from the File menu.
A startup dialog box will appear. Press any key to open the “Open” dialog box.
2. Select either a Persuasion slide show file or a standard .GIF file in the “Open” dialog box. Or, to view the settings for the slide show, check the “Show settings” option, and then click “Open.”
3. Click “Open” to begin the slide show. If you choose to review the slide show settings, click “OK” in the “Settings” dialog box to begin the slide show.
4. To end the slide show and return to the main window, press Command + . (period). To choose another slide show, select “Open” (Command + O) from the File menu and then choose the slide show you wish to view. To close the Persuasion Player, choose “Quit” (Command + Q) from the File menu.
Make sure to disable screen savers, mail, or any other program that may interrupt a slide show.
The following table explains how to move through a slide show:

You can also navigate through a slide show by using the control buttons. Press Command + W to make the control buttons appear. The Persuasion Player has the same control buttons as a tape recorder or VCR--play, stop, fast forward, and rewind.
